2014 Chardonnay is Partial barrel fermentation and extended lees contact have added complexity to the rich varietal flavour of this classic grape variety as it matured in custom made 450L French oak puncheons. This complexity will continue to develop for many years.
Tasting Note for 2014 Chardonnay
Fabulous nose, peaches and cream with some toasted brioche sitting nicely in the background.
This is well away from the Margaret River grapefruit spectrum now in vogue, with the palate showing traditional Burgundian stonefruit characteristics.
It’s quite big in the mouth, but not heavy in texture and weight. The palate is disarmingly gentle, while still generous and round, the fruit spreading easily over the mid-palate to a long, luxurious finish. There’s very skilful use of oak which sits well at the back, adding a little toast and tannin to round up the finish. Super wine.
