With the fruit solely from our original 1973 vines, 2011 Old Vine Shiraz shows superb colour with peppery intense fruit well integrated with oak. Extended barrel maturation and minimal filtration gives complexity which will ensure that while drinking well now, it will continue to develop for many years.
The colour is considerably darker than the same vintage’s cabernet, but shows more age on the meniscus. There’s distinctive oak on the nose over ripe fruit. An intense black pepper spiciness lifts the bouquet. There’s huge intensity with lots of concentrated red fruits like redcurrants and some blueberry flavours along with a big belt of spicy and peppery condiments. Interesting oak characters emerge on airing, a little charry and tarry to plump out the intensity of the fruit. A very distinctive Peel shiraz.
