2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is magnificent Cabernet fruit and subtle French oak combine to make this supple, complex wine. Rich, slightly stalky flavours turn into classic cigarbox characters and will become even more intriguing and complex in the years to come.
Colour is deep scarlet with no real sign of age, cherry red edges. The nose is scented red small fruits, a hint of maraschino cherry richness, some blackcurrants and a whiff of chocolate. There’s nothing vegetative, no tobacco notes. Magnificent.
At six years, a red that’s gentle, restrained, expressive, ripe and still full of promise despite its light structure and approachable tannins. The palate flavours are mulberry and cherry. This is delicious drinking now, but its youthful character suggests the best is yet to come.
